About ALDOT On-the-job Training Programs

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requires all state transportation agencies (STA) to establish apprenticeship and training programs targeted to move women, minorities, and disadvantaged individuals into journey-level positions in the highway construction industry. Additional objectives of the OJT Program are to:

    • broaden the labor pool to meet the projected future labor needs in the construction industry.

    • address the historic under-representation of minority, women, and disadvantaged individuals in highway construction skilled crafts.

The programs do not require participants to have prior experience and are intended to provide participants with an overview of work within the highway construction industry and prepare them for entry into the ALDOT OJT training program.

Program funded by the Alabama Department of Transportation and administered by The University of Alabama in Huntsville in partnership with Calhoun Community College.
